"Beyond Fifty Nifty"

There’s more we can do than just sing “Fifty Nifty” when planning a cross-curricular lesson with social studies. We will explore the states through rhythmic composition, body percussion, and melodic improvisation (recorders or mallets).

"Mirror Mirror"

Mirror Mirror: A Book of Reverso Poems by Marilyn Singer serves as a springboard for student-driven musical composition. Using reverso poems, students are invited to translate a literary “flip” into music through intentional changes in compositional choices. The process highlights practical ways to support open-ended creativity, scaffold for varied readiness levels, and embrace the productive “chaos” that often leads to the most meaningful musical learning experiences.
